Dear Friends and Neighbors of the 97th State Assembly District,
Thanks for your interest in my candidacy for the Wisconsin State Assembly, 97th District.
When I ran for this position in 2006, I believed that my experience and skills gained as an attorney would enable me to be an effective Representative. I’m a good listener. I look for practical solutions. I’m able to help people reach consensus.
I earned over 44 % of the vote in that election, my first try for public office. Those who had invested in me believed that I should definitely run again in 2008. As one wrote, “Thank you for sacrificing your time and personal life to make a difference. Please consider running again. We need you in the Wisconsin Assembly—leaders who really care about their communities and the people they represent.” And so I am once again running for this position.
While campaigning, I hear voters express their frustration with the partisanship which seems to prevent the legislature from enacting anything other than quick-fixes. Long term solutions require commitment, and too many of our elected officials are concerned more about staying in office than in making a difference in our state. You can support me knowing that I’m only interested in making things better and so I’ll serve only as long as I can be effective.
The concerns I talked about in 2006 remain concerns today because our legislature has done so little in the last two years to address the problems facing us. We still need to find a way to give the best education possible to the next generation, to make sure our environment is protected, to assure a strong economy: good jobs with good benefits, and to improve public safety in our neighborhoods and on our streets.
